Next Saturday in Jacksonville, there is a ride benefitting Dreams Come True. This organization grants Dreams of chronically ill children.

I know first hand what a wonderful organization that this is. My oldest daughter's Dream was granted by them. It was an awesome experience for the whole family.

Mega Roll Chart Review

Thanks to Dave Hall for letting me try his new roll chart holder on the 'Bamy ride. This thing is as serious as you can get. Waterproof and bulletproof. Actually I'm not sure it's bulletproof, but would guess it can handle a .38 round. Chart performed perfectly, has a larger viewing area than any I've seen or used, mounts to almost any set up, and looks like it was made for heavy hammering. Bought it the moment I got home from the ride. Two thumbs up Dave!

Oh yeah, almost forgot... this thing is BLING! Always important.

My neighbor was kind enough to lend me his FZ1 so I can put some miles on it for him. I am planning a street ride this Sunday 11/8 from Brandon heading east into Bartow and through some twisty roads in that area. The destination will be a road that I call the "Tail of the Donkey". The plan is: Leave Brandon 10 ish - Lunch at Beef's in Bartow - Back by 3 at the latest.

South GA DR 200

Well, I've hosted this ride twice now. The second time with the "new and improved" return trip home. The modification added 40 miles to the trip so,.... I guess we'll rename it to the "South GA Dirt Road 200" for GP.
The only question now is...When do we do it again? Two weekends are out: Nov 7-8, and Dec 5th (Gobbler). Any other suggestions? Let's make a plan.......
The loop starts and ends in northern Valdosta with a lunch break in Thomasville. The 200mile dirt road route only includes about 20 miles of pavement. Along the way we see plenty of cotton fields (was blooming last time), red clay, plantation land, and scenic canopy roads. And I almost forgot ... Cherry Lake.
Any suggestions for a Saturday ride let me know.

I keep seeing person after person join with so little info posted about themselves. Let's at least see your bike and hear where you are from. And a note to you new guys, (as I found out right quick) be prepared to drive/haul to an event/ride. This is the only way to put a face to the name (you might spot the elusive Miami Mike for example). The group rides are worth the hotel money if you must. You'll be glad you did.

This is the last holder you will ever buy. It's engineered out of aluminum and deep enough for a long route sheet.

It's cartridge style makes loading the sheet easy. Rubber bushings allow you to maintain the sheet in position of the spindle. Rubber seals keep the water out when you put it back together.

This thing is well thought out, and engineered to the hilt!

...And YES! It DOES hold a loooooong route sheet!

Draw backs?

It's a little pricey. Initially offered at $89 it's 3 times the cost of a plastic one. But if you're in the sport for any amount of time, you know you'll go through a few of the plastic ones as the break or don't work right from the get go.

This is an investment and a lifelong piece of equipment you can move from bike to bike to bike.

I'll be drilling a small hole into the back of mine. It's so good and waterproof and airtight, that the air in the box stays the same as the air outside changes, causing some fogging! But an easy fix.

Overall, this thing rocks. Treat yourself to the strongest, easiest to use and smoothest roll chart holder you'll ever use. And quite possibly, the last one you'll ever buy.

FL Raiding Trust Funds! 8-09

At the July 29, 2009 meeting of the Florida OHV Advisory Committee we received an accounting of the revenue, expenses and withdrawals for the OHV Trust Fund (within the Florida Division of Forestry) from its inception in Fiscal Year 2002-2003 until the end of Fiscal Year 2008-2009 (which ended June 30). The revenue deposited into the trust fund comes from titles issued for new and used off-highway motorcycles and ATVs. The title fee and trust fund were established by the T. Mark Schmidt Off-Highway Vehicle Safety and Recreation Act of 2002. The legislation was supported by the Florida Trail Riders and the Florida Motorcycle Dealers Association. In simple terms, OHV enthusiasts and dealers agreed to a tax (a title fee) if the money was put into a trust fund that was to be used to promote OHV safety and recreation in the state of Florida. From 2002 through 2007 the funds in the trust fund were used for that purpose.

However, in 2008 the Florida Legislature robbed (the politically-correct term is swept) $2 million dollars from the trust fund, and in 2009 compounded that robbery by stealing another $2.37 million dollars from the fund. In two years they stole $4.37 million of the $7.65 million deposited to the fund. They stole over 50% of our money. There is nothing left in the fund for OHV recreation.

You need to immediately contact your Florida senator and Florida representative to:

With this breach of trust with the public. The legislation that created the tax and the trust fund was very specific that the money was to be used for OHV recreation. The exact language of the act can be found on the FTR website.

Ask for copies of the legislative acts (probably an appropriations or budget bill) that authorized this off-highway robbery. If they claim it was not authorized by the legislature, then demand to know how the funds disappeared from the trust fund.

Ask them to confirm if they voted in favor of this robbery.

Demand that they restore this money to the trust fund.

If all FTR members do not apply pressure to the politicians this OHV money will be lost forever.

How do you identify and contact your legislators? Look on your voter identification card (you are registered to vote, arent you?). It lists your Florida Senate district number and your Florida House of Representatives district number.
